“Beer brewing is largely a labor value-added industry, using local inputs, so the ‘economic multiplier’ is large,” economist Stephen P. Mullin, president of Econsult Solutions, said. “[Beer brands] tend to be exported to the rest of the USA and elsewhere so they bring dollars into our economy, and they can lead to ‘import substitution,’ meaning locals buy there and don’t buy as much beer from outside, keeping dollars here. Both of these stimulate the local economy.”
