Montana Film Study Data Collection Survey
The production of feature films, television series, and commercials can generate significant economic activity for their host communities, drawing out-of-town spending, generating jobs, and supporting local businesses. Because of this potential boost to local economies, many states provide incentives to attract productions as an economic development initiative.
Econsult Solutions, Inc. has recently completed an assessment of the economic impact of the MEDIA Tax Credit Program. As part of our analysis, we hope to understand the true impact of the film industry in Montana. In order to do so, we are asking for TV and filmmakers to complete this brief survey.
About the MEDIA Act
The Montana Economic Development Industry Advancement Act (MEDIA Act) was passed by the Montana Legislature to provide an income tax incentive applicable to expenditures related to film, television, and other media production activities for eligible productions that take place in Montana. The legislation became effective July 1, 2019 and extends through 2029.
The program provides a 20 percent transferable income tax credit on production expenditures that are within the state with additional amounts that can increase the credit up to 35 percent of the production company’s investment per year.
