Analyst Expand

Analysts at ESI support the production of consulting reports within project teams through analysis, research, writing
and data visualization. Analysts contribute directly to ESI’s body of project work at the intersection of economics,
planning, and public policy. They also have opportunities to grow their professional skills and content knowledge.

Job Functions

  • Gather data and conduct statistical analysis
  • Identify and summarize technical and policy research
  • Perform economic and statistical modeling with oversight from senior staff
  • Draft and edit client-facing materials (reports, memos, presentations)
  • Work in collaboration with project team to meet deadlines and complete projects, including asking for or providing support across team members and tasks
  • Interface with clients as needed in project meetings and correspondence

Required Skills

  • Data Analysis: Accurate and appropriate use of statistical and economic techniques to produce analytical
    results from large or complex datasets.
  • Written and Verbal Communications: Composition of clear, accurate and professional written reports and
    correspondence, ability to convey and present complex information clearly
  • Research: Ability to find and synthesize relevant literature, best practices or data points to advance
    project objectives.
  • Information Presentation / Visualization: Accuracy and quality in the production of tables, figures, visuals and presentations in standard (Word, PPT) and advanced platforms.
  • Technical Software: Proficiency in technical tools (R, GIS, Python, etc.) to enhance the efficiency and
    effectiveness of analysis and information presentation.
  • Collaboration and Problem Solving: Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and teammates to
    identify, confront, and help to address challenges within an analysis or processes.

Qualifications

  • Relevant educational background and credentials
    • Master’s degree helpful but not required
    • Common majors / advanced degrees include: Economics, Planning, Urban Studies, Statistics,
      Mathematics, Political Science, Public or Social Policy, Spatial Analytics, Geography,
      Business/Finance
  • Relevant academic and/or professional experience in core job functions
    • Spreadsheet modeling, regression analysis, cost-benefit analysis, policy research, writing and
      report production
  • Competence in standard software tools and techniques for data analysis and presentation
    • Common tools include: R, Excel, ArcView GIS, IMPLAN, Lightcast, Microsoft Suite
  • Willingness to learn and an interest in issues involving public policy, urban development, economic
    growth, land use, and cities.

Senior Analyst Expand

Senior Analysts at ESI support the production of consulting reports within project teams through analysis, research,
writing and data visualization. Senior Analysts are involved in all facets of ESI project work, contributing to the
development and refinement of project approaches, implementing analysis, and working on client-facing
deliverables. Senior Analysts have opportunities to develop their skills and further their careers through interaction
with clients and staff and external professional development opportunities.

Job Functions

  • Gather data and conduct statistical analysis with limited oversight and direction
  • Identify and summarize technical and policy research
  • Perform economic and statistical modeling
  • Propose, refine and execute project methodologies
  • Draft and edit materials (reports, memos, presentations) that are client-ready in quality
  • Interface with clients and project partners as needed to gather data, present methodologies and findings,
    and address project questions
  • Play a supporting role in project management, helping our team meet project timelines and milestones
    and delegating / managing the work of other team members as appropriate

Required Skills

  • Data Analysis: Advanced use of relevant statistical and economic techniques to produce analytical results
    from large or complex datasets.
  • Written and Verbal Communications: Composition of clear, accurate and professional written reports and
    correspondence, ability to convey and present complex information clearly

  • Enthusiasm for urban economics, urban planning and development, and related policy issues
