Retail Strategy for Ohio City in Cleveland, OH

Project Background

Ohio City, located on the west side of the Cuyahoga River across from Cleveland’s downtown, is a thriving neighborhood. The building stock, affordable rent, and opportunity to be part of an emerging market contribute to its appeal. Its location and proximity to transit have led it to become one of the top residential destinations in the city. With an emerging business district dominated by food and entertainment, the neighborhood is rapidly becoming an attraction for visitors.

The Riddle Company (TRC) and Econsult Solutions, Inc. (ESI) undertook a retail market study for Ohio City Inc. (OCI) the organization responsible for marketing and promotion of the business district. Findings from the study were translated into a retail recruitment marketing brochure for OCI to use to attract the neighborhood’s desired retail mix.

The Riddle Company and Econsult Solutions team analyzed the retail market, local influences, and national trends.

Our team prepared a retail strategy that was responsive and practical. Utilizing surveys and stakeholder meetings to gain local insights, and detailed data to capture market characteristics, we conducted analyses to determine market potential. The Retail Strategy Report encapsulates Ohio City and presents the study’s findings to guide OCI’s recruitment efforts. The companion Retail Recruitment Marketing piece presents a succinct summary of key characteristics and is a tool for attracting retail site selectors.
