The Rowan University/Rutgers – Camden Board of Governors (“RURCBOG”) is developing a Joint Health Sciences Center in Camden, New Jersey, a project that will leverage the Eds and Meds economy in the region. The board was created by the New Jersey Medical and Health Sciences Education Restructuring Act which took effect on August 22, 2012.
Econsult Solutions, Inc. (ESI) produced a report for the board, titled, “Eds and Meds as an Economic Engine for the City of Camden and the State of New Jersey”. The report indicates that key Eds and Meds jobs are growing far faster than overall U.S. employment and the health care industry will soon be the nation’s largest employer, representing nearly 15% of US employment by 2024. Among other positive findings, the report states that Eds and Meds sector has generated 24,000 jobs in Camden, Burlington and Gloucester counties in the past decade.
The new research and educational building is expected to open in 2018 and its development highlights RURCBOG’s commitment to create and sustain economic growth and civic engagement in the City of Camden and the State of New Jersey.
