Visitors to Penns Landing, Society Hill, Independence Mall and other locations of note in Philadelphia owe at least a modicum of appreciation to the efforts of Edmund Bacon, often described as the “father of modern Philadelphia.”Author Gregory Heller has written a comprehensive biography of this complex man, who continued to influence city projects and planning until his death in 2005 at the age of 95.
