Media Borough teases new economic development strategy

Media_Town Earlier this year Media Borough retained Econsult Solutions, Inc. (ESI), JVM Studio, a Philadelphia-based placemaking firm, and The Riddle Company, a retail consulting practice from Washington, D.C led by ESI Senior Advisor Catherine Timko, to help the borough develop an Economic Development Strategy and Implementation Plan to maintain and promote the economic health of the borough and provide concrete action steps for the next five to ten years. The project team has worked with borough leadership to build upon previous planning and development initiatives, assess the current economic conditions and retail market, and engage the public and key stakeholders around the community’s shared vision for growth. On Tuesday, October 10th, 2017, the Economic Development Project Team hosted a public forum to discuss their initial findings, present early recommendations, and obtain public feedback. Between 40 and 50 residents and interested parties attended. The presentation can be found on the borough website. The key takeaways of this meeting were highlighted in The Delaware County Daily Times in an article published on October 15, 2017. Among the recommendations discussed, the recruitment of diverse retail businesses to make retail more of an experience; attention to transportation modes for vehicles, bicycles, the SEPTA trolley, and pedestrians; and future visioning of the industrial district. ESI Senior Vice President Peter Angelides stated, “Media is in really good shape. It’s the kind of place that everyone wants to be.” The Team is now working on the final draft of the Plan, due for completion in November 2017.
