DOT is planning to award $500 million worth of grants to states for infrastructure construction projects. The grants will be awarded on a competitive basis to projects that will be selected from applications from state and local governments.
Since 2009, the TIGER grant program has provided nearly $5.1 billion to 421 projects in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, including 140 projects to support rural projects across the nation.
SOME HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE NOTICE OF FUNDING OPPORTUNITY
- As of last year, no pre-application required! Instead, applicants have to fill in a Project Information Form.
- Applications are due Monday, October 16, 2017 by 8:00 p.m. E.D.T.
- Registration on Grants.gov must be completed before submitting the final application and takes 2-4 weeks to complete.

- DOT will debrief previous grant submissions with previous applicants. Email [email protected] to schedule a debrief.
- TIGER Discretionary Grants may be not less than $5 million ($1 million in rural areas) and the maximum is $100 million.
- $500 million will be awarded in total by DOT.
- Applications that include project partners must be signed by both parties.
- A project partner need not be an eligible applicant as long as the lead is eligible.
- An application can contain several project components as long as the components demonstrate a strong relationship or connection between them.
