The Philadelphia Orchestra and Ensemble Arts is a nonprofit organization created in 2021 when The Philadelphia Orchestra and Kimmel Center, Inc. united as a single organization. They play a pivotal role in delivering exceptional performances, events, and cultural programs that significantly benefit the city, region, and state. The organization owns and operates three world-renowned buildings that contain nine event venues and represents more than 165 years of history and excellence in the arts. This also includes performances through its six Resident Companies including Opera Philadelphia, Philadelphia Ballet, the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Dance Company (PHILADANCO!), and Philadelphia Chamber Music Society.
ESI was contracted by The Philadelphia Orchestra and Ensemble Arts to analyze and quantify its economic and fiscal impacts on the City of Philadelphia, Philadelphia MSA, and Pennsylvania economies though its operations and ancillary patron spending.
Using industry-standard input-output modeling, ESI looked at total economic and fiscal impacts and impacts of ancillary spending from events and programming. ESI created spending profiles for cast and crew, as well as visitors for ticketed and non-ticketed events. Additionally, ESI described the qualitative social benefits the organization provides to the city and region.
ESI also examined social impacts, looking at educational programming, diversity, equity, inclusion, and access strategies, as well as how the organization serves as an anchor in Center City Philadelphia.
