Economic Impact of Baltimore Gas and Electric’s STRIDE Program

Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE) commissioned Econsult Solutions, Inc (ESI) to perform a study to measure the economic and environmental impacts of its Strategic Infrastructure Development and Enhancement (STRIDE) program to be completed in the year 2042. ESI also developed three alternate scenarios where the STRIDE program investments are further accelerated to be completed in 2032, 2035, or 2037. Strategic investments in public infrastructure such as the STRIDE program are an essential component of Maryland’s economic vitality as well as the health and well-being of local communities.

ESI employed industry-standard modeling techniques to estimate the direct economic activity generated by BGE’s STRIDE program within its service area and the state of Maryland. Those direct impacts are then translated to demonstrate the significant influence that total economic output, employment, associated earnings, and tax revenue has on the local and state economies. The economic impacts are generated solely from STRIDE project investments and exclude broader impacts on the economy via surcharges and rate changes associated with the capital program.
